Why the launch of House of the Dragon in Russia seems shocking?

Due to the recent war between Ukraine and Russia via the invasion of the Russian Federation their neighbor in the second month of 2022. Russians will not be able to watch and enjoy the newest American films, at least not legitimately.

CEO of Time Warner Jason Kilar announced that they are “pausing all new business in Russia via a note which reads  “This includes ceasing broadcast of our channels, halting all new content licensing with Russian entities, and pausing our planned theatrical and games releases.”

Why is HBO releasing its new content in Russia?

Parent company Warner Media has already suspended their new business there but in spite of that HBO has confirmed that they will be able to stream House of the Dragon in Russia through the popular streaming service Amediateka and won’t be deprived of their new contents. It is unclear when will the contact end with Russia.

HBO has a “multi-year deal” back in 2017 with Amediateka, which is also promoting the “Game of Thrones” spinoff House of the Dragon in Russia in its email newsletter.

HBO spokesperson Anna Nicoll said in a statement, “While we paused any new business in Russia, we continue to fulfill contractual obligations.

The first episode of House of the Dragon will debut on HBO and HBO Max on August 21, 2022. The launch date of House of the Dragon in Russia is unknown yet.
