Because as the world’s richest person he can be. The other answer is that Musk sees owning Twitter as a sort of responsibility because, as he says, it will save civilization.

The world’s richest man has the funds to buy Twitter. But if he can’t crack a deal for some reason he will bring along as many shareholders as he can, to reform the social media giant that’s become America’s public square.

There were indications that something is going on between Twitter and Elon Musk but it came as a surprise on April 14, when the world’s richest person announced to purchase of Twitter for $43 billion.

An answer may never be known because Musk’s $43 billion offer doesn’t seem like business logic. It looks like a move that screams “I want it, I will have it.” In his letter to the Twitter chairperson, Musk said that he wants to unlock the potential of Twitter.

At the TED 2022 conference in Vancouver, he told his intention behind the move, he said that he wants to own Twitter because it is a crucial part of our civilization. What about money and profit motives? None at all said Musk.

Elon Musk in response also said about his $43 billion bid for Twitter. He said “This is not a way to sort of make money. My strong inherent sense is that having a public platform that is maximally trusted and broadly inclusive is extremely important.
