A Golden Globe nominee Joanna Barnes died at 87

Joanna Barnes, who was nominated for A Golden Globe award for her role in Auntie Mame has died at the age of 87. She is also well known for The Parent Trap and Tarzan.

After suffering from multiple health issues the actress passed away on Friday in her him at Sea Ranch, Calif.

Joanna Barnes was born in Boston on Nov. 15, 1934. Before joining Hollywood Joanna worked in television shows like Maverick and Colt .45. In 1959’s Joanna Barnes appeared in Tarzan: The Ape Man as Jane Porter.

Barnes is mostly famous for her role as a gold digger Vicky Robinson in 1961’s The Parent Trap, later in 1998 she played the gold digger’s mother Vicki Blake in Disney’s remake.

For her performance as Gloria Upson in 1958’s Auntie Mame, Joanna Barnes earned a Golden Globe nomination.

Besides the acting, Barnes was also a writer and columnist. In 1973, she told newspaper columnist Dick Kleiner that she liked writing because “it is something you do yourself. With acting, if you win an Oscar or an Emmy, you have to thank everybody. If you write a book, it is completely your own.” (Google.com)
