Ashley comes from a family of academics. And she’s the only one in the family who is not one. But her parents always support her and her career choices, especially given how uncertain her line of work can be.
As she is of Indian origin and with a dark skin tone she is very aware of colorism and racism in the industry. But she doesn’t let it stop her from pursuing her ambitions.
Simone Ashley said in an interview:
“Yes, colorism is an ongoing issue. As is being typecast, being looked over because of the color of your skin, losing roles to girls that are more ‘relatable’ to target audiences and markets. But if I surrender to all of that, where would I be going? Nowhere! F*ck that.”
