Caraval age rating is 13+ which means this book is suitable for readers of the age of 13 and up, but in my opinion, 12 year old can also read this book as there is nothing in this book that a 12-year-old can not handle.
Caraval Parents Guide

Caraval Summary

Caraval Review
I will say this book was much better than I expected, it had an interesting and compelling plot, and the magic in it made it even more fantastic. It isn’t too predictable, the characters are well-thought-of, and it sends positive messages of love and loyalty.
Caraval is an incredible book that is a world apart from most other Young Adult fiction novels!! The writing is beautiful and the way the author weaves together the plot is enchanting and will keep you guessing until the end!! Personally, the world that Garber created was what made the book for me and the sisterly love between Scarlett and Donatella only added to this fantastic world! However, I would say that this book would be suitable for a 13-year old (or mature 12-year-old) due to some of the content and the complexity of the plot as the story progresses.
Caraval Characters
- Jacks, also known as The Prince of Hearts, is a Fate and the former heir to the Elantine Empire. Jacks is described to have pale skin, golden-blond hair, and silver-blue eyes. Jacks appears to be a careless young man who is unbothered by others’ opinions. However, it is actually entirely opposite: Jacks cares sincerely for his reputation and has a cold demeanor. His reputation as a Fate hints that he is quite the charmer but also a heartbreaker. Fates can only feel obsession, lust, possession, and desire — but not love. If a Fate feels love, they will become human.
- Scarlett Dragna is the older half-sister of Donatella Dragna, step-daughter of Marcello Dragna, and daughter of Paloma Dragna and The Fallen Star. After writing letters to Legend for seven years, she is finally invited to attend Caraval. She is the main protagonist of Caraval and Finale.
- Donatella Dragna is Scarlett Dragna’s half-sister and the daughter of Marcello Dragna and Paloma Dragna. She is the main protagonist in Stephanie Garber’s Legendary and Finale. Donatella Dragna is described as a slim lady with honey blonde hair that hangs in soft ringlets over her shoulders. She inherited the majority of her fathers’ light looks, the majority of people call her Tella instead of Donatella.
- Legend is the master of Caraval. He is first introduced when Scarlett Dragna begins to write him to come to their Island to perform for her sister Donatella’s birthday. He is played by different performers in each game, but never the same one.
- Julian Santos is Legend’s brother and a performer in Caraval. Julian is described as young and handsome with golden-brown skin and amber-brown eyes. He has dark hair and is unshaved he has dark stubble and a silver streak along his jaw from giving up a day of his life for Scarlett. Also, Due to Governor Dragna, has a thin, jagged scar that runs from his jaw to the corner of his eye.
