The upcoming animated series Iwájú was one of the more intriguing projects Disney highlighted at their Studio Showcase. There have been many fun projects to be announced so far at D23.
For its animated series, Iwájú Disney will be collaborating with the African animation studio Kugali. This is going to be Disney’s first collaboration with an outside studio in its 100-year history.
Iwájú is a futuristic coming-of-age story that will take place in Lagos, Nigeria. The storyline will follow n heiress and a poor boy, Tola and Kole this is the only known part about the plot.
Disney has also released a new official image on their social media pages that shows Tola and Kole running through the streets of Lagos and robot drones following them from behind. Kole seems reluctant to join Tola on the unknown journey ahead of them, but that classic Disney whim is beaming from every inch of this first look.
When is the Release
Iwájú will be premiering on Disney+ sometime in 2023. The film is written and directed by Ziki Adeola, Hamid Ibrahim would be the production designer.
